Want to Lengthen Your Life? Here’s How!
Factory Farming Awareness Coalition (FFAC) ran this transit ad in BART stations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. And it’s true, you may not be able to shorten your commute where you live, but you can lengthen your life by eating a plant-based diet and ditching meat and dairy products.
Numerous research studies have revealed that eating a meat-based diet increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and many chronic illnesses. The National Cancer Institute says just eating less meat has a protective effect, and “the people who eat the most red meat every day are 30 percent more likely to die of any cause during a 10-year period than those who ate the least amount of red meat.”
People who eat primarily plant-based foods–emphasizing grains, beans, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables–eat less saturated fat, less cholesterol, fewer calories, weigh less, have a lower risk of heart disease and stroke, and have significantly fewer chronic diseases than consumers of meat and dairy.
