Governor Chris Christie to Make Decision on Gestation Crate Ban

Governor Chris Christie, who is both New Jersey’s governor and a potential presidential candidate in 2016, has until December to sign a bill that would ban pig farmers in New Jersey from using cruel gestation crates, or confining metal cages that are so small pregnant pigs cannot move, turn around, or walk. Though the bill has overwhelming support of both Republican and Democratic state lawmakers, Christie is receiving pressure from Iowa Governor, Republican Terry Branstad, who is urging Christie to reject the bill – Iowa is the nation’s largest pork producer and home of 2016’s first major electoral event of the nominating process for President of the U.S.
