DOMINION
DOMINION is a moving and eye-opening documentary that sheds light on the many ways animals are used and abused in Australia. DOMINION is the sequel to the film Lucent that exposed the cruelty of pig farming in Australia. But DOMINION goes further in exposing the brutal, inhumane underbelly of modern animal agriculture and other abusive industries to animals through hidden and handheld cameras and aerial drones, and explores the morality of our actions toward animals, and questions the validity of our “dominion” or right to dominate animals rather than respect their sentience, and treat them with moral consideration, compassion and respect.
The film investigates six leading ways we interact with animals, including—our companion animals, animals used for scientific research, for clothing and food, for entertainment, and how we use wildlife. In each of these areas, the film questions our moral right to exploit and cruelly dominate animals.
In an effort to expose the truth and secrecy behind the high walls and closed doors—the film works to uncover the truth, tear down the walls of secrecy, expose the horrific cruelty and violence, and give voice to what we are doing to animals today. It poignantly shows how every one of these industries commoditizes animals and by doing so, ritually brutalizes them. If consumers could see and hear what happens to animals in the production of leather, meat, dairy, eggs, in scientific research, and entertainment—these industries would cease to exist.
DOMINION and the Dominion Movement is a call to action for anyone who believes in the message of the film: that we as a species can and should be stewards to animals, and treat them with compassion and care, and give them the respect they deserve, not violence, cruelty and death for our unnecessary whims and pleasure. It’s a choice, and the choice is ours individually to make.
