Through Their Eyes – A Two-Minute Film
An undercover investigation sheds light on the first day in the lives of chicks in the meat industry – from their own perspective. Cameras, placed on the conveyor belt and other spots along the production line reveal the horrific first moments in the lives of the recently born hatchlings, at eye level.
This same experience is shared by billions of chicks hatched inside meat industry hatcheries all over the world. The footage – taken at one of Israel’s largest industrial hatcheries, very similar to other industrial hatcheries around the world – was captured through the work of an undercover investigator from Anonymous for Animal Rights, Israel’s largest animal rights group.
About Chickens Raised for Meat
Over 9 billion “broiler” (baby) chickens, both males and females, are raised and slaughtered in the U.S. each year. That’s one million killed every hour. Worldwide, over 50 billion chickens are now being slaughtered every year. In the U.S., 9 out of 10 land animals killed are “broiler or meat” chickens.
The 9 billion chickens raised for meat spend their entire lives in warehouse-like sheds, crowded in packed conditions, confined to tiny spaces where their natural behavior is completely thwarted, they live in total darkness, are forced to grow way too fast through hormones, live in filthy spaces and in their own excrement, are mutilated by the industry including being painfully de-beaked, having their combs cut off, their leg spurs cut off, and their toes clipped—all because of overcrowding and all done with anesthesia. They suffer from numerous painful diseases causing constant suffering, including from chronic upper-respiratory infections due to breathing ammonia fumes 24/7, and they fall and live on their chests because they cannot support themselves normally due to genetic manipulation to grow them into monsters in a matter of weeks. In addition, there are zero government regulations or animal welfare laws to protect them, so chickens receive no protections during the slaughter process, which means they are fully conscious through being hung upside down, having their throats slit, bleeding out, and being boiled – all alive and awake, and suffering.
Think again about eating chicken. It’s a life. A sentient life. And it’s not good for you. You don’t need it to live. The best protein in the world comes directly from plants, not animals. Go vegan for you, your health, the animals, and the environment.
