Farrowing Crates: A Life of Torment For Pigs
The pig industry relies on cruel factory farming systems such as farrowing and gestation crates for female pigs. In a farrowing crate a mother pig can only stand up and lie down. With no straw for bedding, she scrapes her nose over the bare concrete floor in an attempt to build a nest for her piglets. The crate allows her no room to move, to turn around, turn over, roll, stretch, walk, or get exercise. In anguish and despair, she bites the bars. She is profoundly bored. Her physical body is uncomfortable and in pain. Her skin lies on concrete slabs 24/7. Her inability to properly mother her piglets only adds further to her frustration and depression. She cannot even see them. Her piglets will be taken away at a mere four weeks of age. This is our heinous industrial farm system, it’s based on inhumane, cruel practices than deny animals any expression of their natural behavior. It’s a system built upon incredible, deep cruelty to animals.
Don’t support industrial farming. Don’t support the animal cruelty that food animals endure. The best each of us can do is ban pork, and all animal products from our diets.
Take suffering, cruelty, pain, and torture off your plate, forever. Go vegan for the animals.
