The Invisible Vegan – A Movement Toward A New Consciousness
Heart disease, cancer and diabetes are the leading causes of death in North America—all diet and health-related and all steadily increasing—and these chronic illnesses have disproportionately affected the African-American population. The independent, hard-hitting documentary film The Invisible Vegan examines the complex issues surrounding the unhealthy dietary patterns in the African-American community and considers the health and wellness possibilities that can be achieved through a plant-based vegan diet. The Invisible Vegan explores the historical reasons for the dietary trends in the African-American community, and reveals how interconnected the history of slavery, 20th century socio-economic inequalities, and the rise of Big Food have all led to the increased consumption and dependence on meat, animal foods, processed and packaged foods, and fast food.
The film stars Jasmine Leyva, Cedric the Entertainer, John Salley, Stic of Dead Prez and Tracye McQuirter.
Film Launch: 2017 (coming soon to the public)
