MEAT THE FUTURE, How One Company is Disrupting Conventional Meat Production
Think – Sustainable. Organic. Cultured. Cruelty-Free. Humane. Healthy. Safe. Cellular Agriculture. No Factory Farms, No Slaughterhouses! Clean Meat – Yes, Meat!
How are we going to feed 9 billion people by 2050? How can we address the largest single contributor responsible for climate change — animal agriculture? How can we reduce the deep suffering and cruelty done to 10 billion land animals everyday for meat in the U.S.? The consumption of meat is expected to double by 2050 and current meat production techniques are not going to meet the demand by 2050. So what’s the solution?
MEAT THE FUTURE is a feature-length documentary addressing one of the most important issues facing the world today—how to feed the world’s growing population in a sustainable, healthy, humane way. MEAT THE FUTURE tells the story of how one high-tech startup is disrupting conventional meat production by scientifically creating cultured meat from the cells of live animal tissue. Instead of raising and killing animals for their meat, and the horrors of factory farming, Memphis Meats is pushing for positive change by harvesting live cells to grow pork, beef and chicken in a healthy, sustainable way.
The film lets us go behind the scenes of this Silicon Valley high-tech start-up and follow the company’s CEO and co-founder, Dr. Uma Valeti, and the company’s scientists and team, for an exclusive peek into the day-to-day decisions, research, challenges, risks, triumphs, and highlights involved with pioneering this radical new concept that could revolutionize our food system and animal agriculture.
There are still some big unanswered questions: Will it taste good? Will consumers accept the idea of lab-grown meat? Will it be affordable? Can it be produced at scale and be competitive? Memphis Meats plans to bring their products to market by 2020 and have already started production and are well on their way, heralding the beginning of the clean meat revolution.
