Documentary Film – Give Me Shelter
Give Me Shelter is a powerful and moving award-winning film documentary by actress and producer Katie Cleary, that raises awareness about some of the most pressing animal welfare issues happening worldwide—including the fur trade, factory farming, the horse slaughter industry, circus animals, tiger conservation, the elephant tusk trade, Sea World and captive marine mammals, shark finning, poaching wildlife and wildlife conservation, saving Orangutans from extinction, the cruel puppy mill industry, animal shelters and adopting shelter pets, animal abuse and neglect, and the black market trade of wild, threatened and endangered species. This film exposes the dark, cruel, and inhumane world of businesses that profit from exploiting and using animals, both wild and domestic, and what each one of us can do to help.
The film reveals the shadow side of humanity and what we do to voiceless, innocent animals for our own benefit. Through numerous interviews with celebrity animal activists and professional animal advocates, the film shines a light on how humans continue to dominate and disregard the sentience and suffering of animals, for purely selfish reasons. It also lifts up the people who dedicate their lives every day to the rescue, rehabilitation and care for these animals while being a voice for the voiceless. The film stars Oscar winner Ric O’Barry best known for his work on “The Cove“, actress Tippi Hedren, Alison Eastwood, Esai Morales, Michael Vartan, Robert Davi and many more animal advocates lending their name to the cause.
Some Quotes:
“People don’t realize when they go into a pet store to see the puppies or kittens, they don’t realize it’s a very deceptive business, behind the pretty store front — is a very ugly reality.”
“Orangutans forest habitat is being illegally slashed and burned for palm oil. If people would stop buying palm oil, this would stop.”
“When people relinquish their dogs and cats at shelters, there’s a matter of days that their dog or cat will be put down if they don’t find a home.”
